Donavon Earns Silver at the 2026 IBJJF World Master Championship
Bushido Jiu-Jitsu Zionsville’s Donavon Greene brought home a silver medal from the 2026 IBJJF World Master Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Las Vegas— one of the biggest and most competitive Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu events in the world.
The result is impressive. But what matters even more to us is how Donavon got there.
Repetition Creates Confidence
There is nothing accidental about performing well on a world championship stage. Donavon has competed many weekends traveling to Chicago, NYC, New Jersey, Nashville, LA, San Diego, Boston, competing in the octagon at Mohegan Sun, competing at Worlds.
Donavon’s preparation has been built around something we emphasize constantly at Bushido: repetition with purpose.
He drills. He asks questions and remains curious on how to continually improve. He works to understand not only what a technique does, but why and when it works. Then he repeats it until the movement becomes instinctive.
That distinction matters. He will pull the trigger to land the necessary takedown at the right time or go for the submission at the exact moment!
Simply collecting more techniques does not necessarily make someone better at Jiu-Jitsu. Developing a smaller number of reliable skills, understanding the reactions they create, and being able to execute them under pressure does.
Donavon has embraced that process. His progression shows and proves that!
Solid Fundamentals. Excellent Technique.
At the highest levels of competition, fundamentals matter. Donavon was in a 55 man bracket and he defeated his opponents with solid fundamentals and understanding how and when to use them. Many of his opponents had their “tricks” or odd guards with De La Riva or Worm Guard, etc. but Donavon beat his opponents with excellent technique.
Posture. Base. Grips. Position. Pressure. Timing. Control.
Donavon’s performance at World Masters demonstrated that excellent Jiu-Jitsu does not need to be complicated with tricks meant for the most flexible. It needs to be technically sound and executed at the right time.
His game is built on strong fundamentals and an increasingly deep understanding of how positions connect together.
That technical foundation allowed him to stay composed and make good decisions against experienced competitors on one of Jiu-Jitsu’s biggest stages.
Learning How to Win
Competition Jiu-Jitsu requires more than knowing Jiu-Jitsu. You have to understand how to win.
That means understanding the score, the clock, positional value, risk versus reward, when to attack, when to consolidate a position, and how to make intelligent decisions while another trained athlete is actively trying to impose his game on you.
Donavon has put significant effort into developing that strategic competition mindset. His long resume of competing everywhere came together in full force in Las Vegas!
Instead of simply going into matches hoping to perform well, he is learning to manage matches, recognize opportunities, and create situations that favor his style that play to his strengths.
That is a skill in itself—and it is developed through preparation and experience.
Never Give Up
Perhaps the most important part of Donavon’s performance is something that cannot be taught through technique alone:
He Does Not Quit.
Competition inevitably creates difficult positions, bad moments and unexpected problems. The athletes who succeed learn to remain composed, continue working and look for the next opportunity.
Donavon demonstrated that mentality throughout his run in Las Vegas.
Keep working. Keep thinking. Keep fighting for the next position.
Never give up.
A World Championship Silver Medal—and More Work Ahead
A second-place finish at the 2026 IBJJF World Master Championship is an outstanding accomplishment and something Donavon should be extremely proud of. If you see him tell him Congratulations on his success!
The World Master Championship was held September 3–5 in Las Vegas and drew thousands of athletes across its divisions. Donavon competed on that international stage in one of the largest brackets and left as a World Master silver medalist.
But at Bushido, the medal represents something larger.
It represents the hours nobody sees.
The drilling. The repetition. The questions. The mistakes. The adjustments. The videos. The willingness to keep learning. The development of a competition strategy. Winning and losing past tournaments. And the discipline to keep showing up and getting better.
Congratulations, Donavon. World Master Silver Medalist.
The result speaks for itself. The process that produced it speaks even louder.
